Our History

Where Time Became Wine

Tradition, innovation and love for the land: the heart of Gigliotto Tenute.

1200

The Construction of the Monastery

The Benedictine monks laid the first stones of the baglio, conceiving the structure as the pulsating heart of their land reclamation and farming activity.

1990

The Savoca Family

The Savoca family purchases and completely restores the Gigliotto estate. The project to recover the ancient Benedictine monastery begins, along with the start of agricultural activities.

2000

The Agriturismo is Born

The Gigliotto agriturismo opens: 26 rooms in Baroque style, a restaurant with 250 indoor seats and a panoramic terrace, a pool and event spaces. The estate becomes a hub of Sicilian hospitality.

2005

The Modern Winery

Elio Savoca inaugurates the winery: 6,000 sqm built with natural materials — wood and stone — to ensure optimal insulation and thermal control. The first Gigliotto Tenute labels are born.

Today

Over 12 Labels, 200 Hectares

Over 12 prestigious labels, 25 hectares of Guyot-trained vineyards with south-facing orientation, organic certification for over twenty years. Gigliotto Tenute is today a reference point for Sicilian wine worldwide.

The Winery

Technology and tradition in stone and wood

The Gigliotto Tenute winery was founded in 2005: a 6,000 square metre building designed and built with natural materials — stone and wood — to ensure perfect temperature control in every season. Here the most advanced winemaking technology meets Sicilian craftsmanship.

White grapes undergo soft pressing in the absence of oxygen, fully preserving their varietal aromas. Reds ferment in temperature-controlled steel tanks after destemming. In the lower cellar, wines age in French oak barriques and tonneaux and in distinctive conical barrels of Sicilian chestnut — a tribute to local tradition.

Sustainability

Organic for over twenty years

Gigliotto Tenute has been organic for over twenty years. Our philosophy is founded on love for rural Sicily and deep respect for the land: local ingredients, natural processes, no compromise on quality.

The estate has a 250 sq m solar thermal system, a 100 kW photovoltaic plant, biomass boilers fuelled by pruning residues from vineyards and olive groves, and a phytodepuration system for wastewater. A virtuous cycle that respects the land at every stage of production.
